    Description

EL CID DUFF GORDON SHERRY COUNTERTOP STATUE LIQUOR DISPLAY 13 x 9 INCHES RARE.
This is a very rare advertising statue of EL CID for Duff Gordon's Sherry. They used this image as an eye catching promotion for the Sherry and Statue. On the liquor
label there is a very light background image of El Cíd riding his horse. Not just any image, this is El Cid Campeador, a famous statue made in 1927 by Anna Hyatt Huntington for the Hispanic Society of America and currently in Balboa Park in San Diego. Copies can be seen in Sevilla and Valencia. Apparently Duff Gordon pictured the statue without prior consent of the artist, who complained, so they had to remove it from later bottlings. This statue is extremely scarce as Duff Gordon did not have permission to use the likeness of the statue on their bottles or advertisements .
    El Cíd Campeador in Sevilla
Nowadays, because of its highly limited nature, El Cíd has a bit of a mythical status among sherry lovers. It is very rare for a bottle to pop up, let alone being opened. Check Andrew’s tasting notes of a recent bottling. Same for the likeness of any advertising . The company that made the statue is on the bottom of the statue, but is now defunct.
Vintage and Rare item. extremely scarce due to licensing liabilities.
Missing hand and flag, and. small crack on one leg .
